CHICO, Calif.—A newly hired instructor at Chico State University has been charged in connection with a suspected marijuana growing operation.
Suspicious postal employees triggered an investigation last month after 42-year-old Elaine Ilana Meiri tried to ship a 3-pound package to Hawaii.
Police searched her home and reported finding 45 pounds of processed marijuana. They arrested Meiri and 56-year-old Denver Troyer. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Meiri and Troyer are being held until they can prove they did not use money from the sale of drugs to post bail.
Chico State hired Meiri a few weeks ago to teach Hebrew.
